RE: XLR IC's

First you should check the output voltage spec on the DV50's XLR outputs which is most likely 4 or 6 volts and also check the input voltage on the preamp's RCA inputs which are most likely 2 volts

You may be over driving the preamps 2 volt RCA inputs with the DV50's 4 or 6 volt outputs

The preamp's RCA ins only require 2 volts to be driven to maximum volume but you're sending them 4 to 6 volts from the DV50's XLR outputs and over driving the preamps input section

This may also limit the useable range of the preamp's volume control as it is receiving way to much voltage from the DV50's 4 or 6 volt XLR outputs

Some alternatives ... trade in the XLR cable for a RCA to RCA cable and use the DV50's RCA outs to the preamp RCA ins ... there are also inexpensive transformers set ups that can convert the XLR's 4 to 6 volt output to the lower 2 volt RCA input voltage on the preamp ... but this would require another cable to go from the converter's RCA outputs to the RCA inputs on the preamp

One other set up would be to get an adapter to convert the XLR to RCA at the preamp end ... which will still give you 4 to 6 volts at the preamp input and then add a pair of 10 db RCA Rothwell attenuators

My vote for simplicity would be to trade in the XLR cable for a RCA to RCA cable and use the RCA outs on the DV50 to the RCA ins on the preamp
