Cable Mavens, Can You Help?

I just bought some Goertz MI-2 copper ribbon speaker cables from Mike Percy, which just arrived. Percy is on vacation for a few weeks, so I wrote to Goertz last night to ask if the ribbon conductors were directional, and if so, how does one tell which direction is which?

I just got an e-mail from Goertz this morning (very prompt!) saying that their MI-2 ribbon speaker wire is NOT directional.

Sorry, but I don't believe it (neither does Pierre Sprey at Mapleshade.)

So I thought I would ask any and all AA members who are current or former Goertz or other ribbon speaker cable users if they have found their ribbon cables to be non-directional, or (as I strongly suspect) very highly directional?

Most importantly, did you open up/remove the outer sleeve that the two Goertz ribbons are wrapped in (but leaving perfectly intact the plastic sleeve each conductor is wrapped in as an individual insulator), and then separate the wires and individually test each conductor for best sonic direction? Or did you simply take the pre-fab cable as is and just flip it until you found the best orientation? Or did you apply an even better approach that I have not thought of?

TIA for any thoughts or guidance here.

Cheers,

WS
